Birds

South Shore Wildlife Management Area
South Shore, Kentucky

Before the terrible rains and flooding resumed this evening, I took a nice birding photowalk around the wildlife management area. Someone has established a really nice bluebird nest box trail that we found to be largely occupied by Tree Swallows. These are interesting birds and are new occupants for those of us who maintain bluebird boxes. My father has had a box for more than 45 years and had his first Tree Swallow nest last year.

These birds are very interesting, in a way they have more personality and are more inviting than the Eastern Bluebird, that is until you get quite close to the nest box and then they go into attack mode. We found they even call in reinforcements. Since bird photography is new to me, I’ll have to remember that the better pictures come from the sunny side. hahaha!
