Here\’s another rerun from a number of years ago. The reflection in the glass is a good friend of mine who lost a courageous fight against cancer a few years ago. He challenged me to keep this blog up when I first started it by sending a simple email that said something like \’looks good, now are you going to stick with it?\’ I had abandoned 2 other similar projects. He was standing beside me as I shot a fair number of the photos on this blog (and every single one from Nashville) and then sort of caught the bug himself. I always thought his pictures were much better than I could do. You know, you can stand side by side and the photographs will look completely different.
Joe Browning has a philosophy that a lot of better photographs have a touch of dumb luck to them and this one exhibits it. I was shooting the door when I caught Mark\’s reflection in the window and asked him to line up a bit better. About that time, he takes out his pocket Canon and starts shooting the scene himself. At that moment, I noticed that the addition of the red light on his Canon (perhaps the anti-red eye feature) added quite a lot to the picture and so it was only a manner of timing and some rapid frames to capture it.
