Pendleton Art Center
I\’ll finish up a slow week with an I-phone photograph from the Pendleton, taken earlier this summer I believe. I\’ve been re-reading "Why Photographs Work" by George Barr. The title seems to predict another boring artsy book but I find this to be one of my favorite books. Each chapter is focused on a different photograph with George first discussing the photo and photographer, the merits of it and things like that. Then we hear from the artist in his/her own words, mostly the story about the image, some about their background, and where they draw their inspiration and influences from. More later.
"Attempts to create an image to please others
will usually fail; the image can seem trite or
simply lack the spark that signifies great
photography. You can, however, produce an
image that means something to yourself and
let the viewer have his or her own reaction."
