Hand rails at the old Carter Caves beach area

Hand rails at the old Carter Caves beach area

I was invited on a photo trail walk to scout for wildflowers this weekend.  This time last year we had already enjoyed many 80 degree days and the wildflowers were coming up all around.  This year we could only find one very small blue flower.  Here is a shot of the old hand rails that lead down to the former beach area.  I’m interested in the history of the beach and dock area because of stories told by several members of the family who enjoyed their teenage and young-adult years there but have now since past away.  The rails leading down the long series of steps are a work of art (to some, I suppose not all notice it) and Google shows the manufacturer is still in business in Cincinnati, Ohio.    These rails are most likely about 60 years old now and are marked “Nu-Rail” in several places, showing it to be one of the earlier products of the Hollaender Manufacturing Company.   I have to admit to having photographed these rails for years but this is probably the first shot that I thought portrayed the vintage quality very well.
