Arkansas Traveler Heirloom Tomato

Arkansas Traveler Heirloom Tomato

from our garden

Seems like it has suddenly gotten late in the season and the garden shows it.  This is a shot of one of my tomatoes, an Arkansas Traveler heirloom that originated more than 100 years ago in the Ozarks.   The tomato is supposed to be medium sized and thrives in severe conditions such as heat and drought, so it was sort of a good insurance plan for the garden.  In spite of all the rain, though, the tomatoes have turned out to be  smaller than I imagined in size but still flavorful and great quality.

Transferred the images from September 2011 from the old site to this one and found several enjoyable ones.  Here\’s the link to the thumbnails

"The federal government has sponsored research that has produced
a tomato that is perfect in every respect, except that you can\’t eat it.
We should make every effort to make sure this disease, often referred
to as \’progress\’, doesn\’t spread."
