Monday started a fresh week with bright and clear weather, but around here it deteriorated and we have our first winter weather. I was surprised about a couple recent announcements, the first being the Fuji Instax camera was a huge sales item for Amazon. It’s the Polaroid style instant camera that seems to appeal to teens right now, as well as others. The other item is the reintroduction of the Super 8 movie camera by Kodak. It was an interesting article, the president of the company talked about how they saved film by getting an agreement from movie makers to use enough film that production could be maintained. They are the last producers of movie stock in the world. For the consumer camera, it was tackling the issue of the film development infrastructure being completely decimated. They solved this by going back to the old yellow mailers. You shoot your film, mail it back to Koday like we mailed Kodachrome in the 70s and 80s, they will then develop and scan it to 4K and mail back the film itself. I would place a bet that the cost of development will be the issue preventing success, I have read about $50 a roll.
An interesting development, I hope it is successful though and maybe camera film will return with similar ease.
